Scotch OCFC Coach

The Scotch OCFC Management Committee is very pleased to able to announce Ian Steel as the new A Grade Coach of the Scotch Old Collegians' Football Club for 2012.

Ian came to Scotch OC as an 18 year old Sturt Reserves player in 1986 and qualified to play, and kick the winning goal on the siren, in the B's famous one point win in the 1986 B's (Div 2 Res) Grand Final against Rostrevor OC. He then won the A Grade Best and Fairest, when we were in Div 1, the very next year.

Ian played in our fantastic 10 goal win against Port Districts to win the Div 2 Premiership in 1989 and was Captain of our Div 3 Premiership team in 1997 in our great win over PAOC in the Grand Final. He is the club's longest serving Captain, 5 years from 1993 to 1997 and was named Captain of Scotch OCFC’s 1985-1999 All Stars Team. He was awarded the Ian Harrison best game of the year award in 1994.

In 1999 Ian was appointed playing Coach of Prince Alfred OC A Grade side which he coached until 2003 making him PAOC’s third longest ever A’s Coach. PAOC played finals in three of Ian’s 5 years as Coach, including 2 Preliminary Finals. He then played one more year with PAOC in 2004 and won their B Grade Best and Fairest.

He returned to Scotch OC as our B Grade playing Coach in 2005 and 2006. He easily won our B’s Best and Fairest in 2005 - at the age of 38! He also helped us out, very unselfishly at the last minute, by looking after our C's in 2009 and playing several more games to take his final total of games for Scotch OC to 248. Combine his 64 games for PAOC his final SAAFL tally of games played is 312.

In 2010 Ian was appointed the Runner for North Adelaide's SANFL League side, under Daniel Healy (ex St Kilda player, ex Centrals Districts Premiership Captain).  After Healy wasn't reappointed, Central Districts approached Ian who then became Centrals official club Runner in 2011 under 7 times premiership coach Roy Laird. From the outset, Ian became much more than just a game day Runner by attending practice nights, all team meetings and helping take league practices with Laird. These last two years had a strong influence in the Scotch OC Committee asking Ian to coach Scotch OC in 2012.

Combine an (excellent) 18 year playing career and 10 years of coaching involvement, in particular his last 2 years, we are confident Ian has a lot to offer as Scotch OC’s A Grade Coach.
