OSCA February Newsletter

Only a month of cricket remains in the minor round and all three OSCA teams still have plenty to play for.
The A grade can’t take a trick and now have to win one of the last two games against Reynella & Hope valley to avoid relegation. Against Modbury in round 8 a 56 last run partnership by Modbury and losing 4 wickets in 4 balls late on day 1 (3 of which were LBW) proved costly - in a 37 run loss. While in the latest game against Gepps Cross, defending a total of 91 OSCA looked set for victory when Geppy’s were 5/12 & 6/22.
Unfortunately their No. 8 batsmen (whose previous highest score was 11) smashed 102 out of 151!. Angus Hogben has performed well with the bat while Stewart Lovie, Peter Harvey & Cam Thomas have all been amongst the wickets in recent weeks.
Just to rub salt in, OSCA also were knocked out in the quarter finals of the 20/20 competition, only able to make 97 in reply to Fulham’s 4/157 on the Main Oval at Scotch.
Tom Kidman’s B grade side have now won 5 games in a row & have jumped to 3rd on the premiership table. After defending a total of 90 runs 3 weeks ago at Glenunga OSCA then easily won the return match & also demolished 2nd side Grange last weekend. They are now in a great
position leading into finals. Julian Farkas has had made 185 runs in his last hits, while the real success story has been 19y.o. Scott Lavis who leads the LOA competition bowling with his ‘wobblers’. Veterans’ Allan Miller, Tom Kidman & Tom Emmett have also played some good cricket over the last few games.
The C grade’s finals chances looked lost at 6/60 chasing 2nd side Hope Valley’s 194 at Montrose last weekend. Enter Nick Kidman (85n.o.) & skipper Peter Feeney (40n.o.) who calmly guided the team home with 2 overs to spare thanks to a terrific 136 run partnership. The C’s still need to
win at least 3 of the last 4 games to participate in finals but are coming good at the right time of the season. Phil Lavis was outstanding the previous week at Marion, while Anthony Tucker’s return to the side will help their finals chances – as long as he doesn’t run out Jody Tucker
again!.
