OSCA January Newsletter

At the print time of the last newsletter Old Scotch A Grade had only won a single game in over 12 months. It is pleasing to be able to print this edition with 4 wins from the last 4 fixtures. OSCA’s fortunes have turned around ever since the start of the Twenty20 competition. Solid victories over MSCC & PAOC in the first two rounds means OSCA only needs to defeat International CC next Tuesday night to progress to the final 8.

In the Saturday competition the A’s have recorded two consecutive wins over finals contenders Flinders Uni & Pooraka. Sent in against Pooraka OSCA posted 8/331 thanks to 94 from Angus Hogben and Peter Harvey claimed 5 wickets including a record 500th wicket to ensure victory. In early trouble at 5/88 against Flinders Uni 18y.o Hugo Twopeny smashed 70 runs in only 12 overs to change the course of the game and help OSCA to an easy win. Angus Hogben & Ed Weaver have been leading the batting, while youngsters Nick Blight & Cam Thorpe have provided great support for Harvey with the ball. It was also great to see Harry White make his OSCA A grade debut against Pooraka.

The B grade has also won their last two & with the best % in the competition are effectively only two wins from top. In a heated game against Adelaide Rockets Harry White took 5 wickets & Dennis Cester top scored. Julian Farkas hit 7 sixes out of his 64 runs in the win over Goodwood. 19y.o. Scott Lavis also continues to impress with his medium pacers taking 20 wicket for the season thus far. An important couple of weeks looms for the B’s in the home/away clashes with Glenunga.

Despite losing to a Kensington side sporting numerous A Grade district players & a wash out at Montrose last weekend, the C’s winning ways continue and they sit 3rd on the ladder. There have been great contributions with both bat & ball from veterans Jody Tucker, Stephen Parsons & Damien Leonard along with the youngsters including Chris Landau, Jono Lagonik & Stefan Carlson.

A highlight of the past few weeks has been the influx of talented School leavers. Chris Landau, Jono Lagonik, Harry White, Hugo Twopeney & 09’ leaver Cam Thorpe have all made great contributions to recent wins.
