OSCA November Newsletter

Despite wet weather playing havoc with cricket schedule four rounds have been completed.
The A grade are still yet to register a win, despite being in a position to win 3 of the four games. Peter Harvey has returned to the side to support the young bowling attack who have all showed great improvement. Angus Hogben & John Clifford found form with the bat last weekend, while Ed Weaver in a new role as an opener has also looked good.
The B’s easily accounted for top side MSCC last weekend after 3 narrow losses. Justin Wight scored his maiden OSCA century while Stewart Lovie & Tom Emmett have also made some handy scores. Michael Ashforth and the evergreen Allan Miller have bowled well so far this season.
Reigning premiers, the C grade are back on track after a loss in round 1 to Kensington. Two veterans, Stephen Parsons & Damien Leonard have starred, both taking 6/19 in recent games, but it has been the performances of the young players in Stefan Carlson, Phil Lavis & Scott Lavis that has been most pleasing.
From the Coach
Despite results not being what we would all like, there have been plenty of positives so far this season. The numbers and enthusiasm at training has been excellent. I thank you for your efforts and the rewards will come. A special thank you to Jeff Schmidt who has come on-board as practice captain. His help is greatly appreciated. Also thanks to Stephen Parsons, Geoff Heard, Ron Thomas, Murray Tippett & Rod Phillips for helping out at training and on match day. I’m sure the boys enjoy having a different voice and using your experience to help their game.
The C’s have done an excellent job to be placed in the top four with a vastly different side than last year and it’s exciting to see some new names taking wickets and making runs.
The B’s won their first game on Saturday against one of last season’s grand finalists and were very close in their first three games. I think that win will be a catalyst to some excellent results leading up to Christmas.
The A’s are yet to taste success however we have been competitive in three of the four games and a win this Saturday would be just reward for the hard work which started over two months ago.
Let’s get three wins on Saturday and get back to the Ed to celebrate!

Milestones
There are a number of significant individual milestones that are approaching or have just been achieved;
Making 34 in round 1 and despite being dismissed by Rick Darling, Anthony Tucker became the first OSCA player to pass 7,000 career runs.
- Peter Harvey is only 7 wickets from being the first OSCA bowler to take 500 wickets, all of which have been A grade wickets.
- Stephen Parson’s is close to completing an amazing double. His recent 6/19 moves him to 398
wickets, passing the long standing figures of Jack Reid & Tex Thomas. He is also only 31 runs short of achieving 4,000 runs as well. - Damien Leonard also passed 100 wickets with his 6/19 effort against Unley OS.
- Tom Emmett has 3,899 and is racing Parso to be the fifth OSCA batsmen to pass 4,000 runs.
