OSCA October Newsletter

The new cricket season is underway with some positive signs coming from the only game played thus far. The A’s lost to Para Hills by a single run. With 2 runs to win, 2 overs remaining & 2 wickets in hand a great first up victory looked possible, unfortunately the runs didn’t come & Lachy Giles was run out off the last ball of the match. Some great efforts from the youthful team with Giles, Henry Treloar & Nick Blight bowling impressively in the absence of Peter Harvey(injured), Tom Bourne(Overseas), Brett Scragg (Prospect) & new recruit Stewart Lovie (who returns this week). Blight & Julian Farkas also batted well together to all but secure the win. The B Grade & C Grade teams commence this week (after last weekend’s wash out) with Tom Kidman & premiership Skipper Peter Feeney again leading the B & C grade teams respectively.
From the Coach
It has been a very encouraging start to season 2010-11. Although numbers at pre-season were not high, the training was of a high standard and I was very impressed with the commitment shown. I am happy with the willingness of all players to get involved at training and embrace the changes we are putting in place.
The ‘A’ grade played well against Para Hills in the season opener but unfortunately fell short by the barest of margins. We were on top for around 80% of the game but we made some errors at crucial times that can be avoided with better concentration levels. The level of support shown on the field (and the fielding effort) was excellent. Let’s get three wins on Saturday and I look forward to seeing plenty of you at training in the coming weeks. – Anthony Tucker, Club Coach.

New Players
OSCA welcomes a number a new players for the coming season.
Stewart Lovie (from Pulteney OS) will be a huge asset with both bat & opening the bowling this season and brings a huge amount of experience & ability to the A Grade side.
Young Ashvin Narayanan (via NZ) & Mike Taylor have both shown some good signs at pre-season, while Patrick Dawes, Andrew Smith & Cam Nelson will all bolster the ranks.
Hugh Twopeny (year 12) has already shown he is a class player and will be joined by Jono Lagonik, Harry White & others post exams, which is exciting for the club.
Let’s make a huge effort to make all of these guys feel welcome!
Even though numbers have been excellent we encourage everyone to continue recruited players for all teams. If you are or know of anyone who is interested in playing at any level please contact John Clifford or Anthony Tucker.
